He studied medicine at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM). He specialized in ophthalmology and sub-specialized in cataract and anterior segment surgery at the Elias Santana Hospital (HES). His skills include minimal incision manual cataract surgery for people with mature cataracts, phacoemulsification of the crystalline lens to perform minimally invasive cataract surgery and iris repair. Currently, he trains and supervises residents at Elias Santana Hospital in cataract surgery. In addition, he participates in the Cataract Coach network of cataract instructors globally.
